Lose the Temptation Lose the Weight

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

If you lose your temptation for fatty foods you will lose excess weight or maintain your ideal healthy weight. We all know that the fast food industry has inundated with clever marketing and low prices of foods high in fat. The temptation for fast food is everywhere and it’s so convenient! Now let’s take a look at the burger
industry. All the pictures we see are of large, juicy and beautiful-looking burgers. They may look beautiful and tasty, but these foods are packed with fat, fat and more fat! Before you cave in to the clever marketing of the fast food industry, think about where all this fat will be stored in your body. Think of all the negative health effects this fat will have on you in the long-term.

The best and natural way to lose weight is to eat healthy. I’m talking about foods low in fat, lots of vegetables and fruits. Forget about all the diet pills out on the market. They can get very expensive for you and most only have short-term benefits. If you stop taking them and continue to eat unhealthy, you will gain all the weight back in a New York minute. Also, some diet pills have negative ramifications on your health and body like the recent issues concerning Hydroxycut which have been in the news lately.

Also, I recommend that during the warm seasons you grow your own vegetables if you have a backyard or access to a plot of city land or growing space. It’s really easy to do. If you are not sure how, visit Pick It Fresh for help.

By planting your own vegetables, you will have access to truly organic, convenient and extremely inexpensive vegetables which are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants. The best thing about planting your own vegetables is that you can pick them right when you want to eat them. Therefore they have a higher vitamin and nutrient content than store bought vegetables because they have actually been allowed to ripen on the vine and in sunshine.

Also, homegrown vegetables taste and smell fresh unlike store bought vegetables which are picked before they ripen and just don’t have the smell, juiciness or taste of fresh vegetables. Store bought vegetables tend to be bland.

The other benefits of growing your own vegetables are that it gives you a chance to spend time outdoors, exercise a bit and it’s a great stress reliever.

LL Cool J Review - Then and Now

Monday, May 18th, 2009

Have you seen the recent commercial with LL Cool J? The one that compares him how he looked like in the past and how he looks now. It’s quite a contrast and a rather humorous commercial. If you haven’t, it’s the commercial where he is a weak-looking guy, with a squeaky voice and a low self-confidence trying to approach a girl at a dance or party.

If you compare him to the person he is now, it’s like night and day! He is self-confident and pumped to the max. He looks great and healthy!

You may be wondering how he accomplished this amazing transformation? Well, if you read LL Cool J’s bookLL Cool J Platinum Workout, you will get a better understanding. It may even shed some perspective on your life or your exercise workouts. In the book, he mentions that he was out-of-shape and his eating habits were very poor. He finally decided that it was time to hire a personal trainer Dave Honig and get-in-shape, change his life!

You may say that since he is a celebrity, he can afford an excellent personal trainer! You are partially correct, but nowadays there are many excellent online personal trainers at very affordable prices. In fact, if you are very motivated and willing to learn, you can even do it yourself. I have! It just takes time, a little reading, learning and dedication.

Anyway, with the help of Dave Honig, LL Cool J got himself on a workout routine and changed his eating habits. It didn’t take long for him to see results. He stuck to his exercise workouts and continues exercising today.

After achieving his fitness and health goals he decided to write Platinum WorkoutPlatinum Workout where he shares his exercise tips, knowledge and secrets. The book is loaded with lots of exercise photos and excellent descriptions of each exercise!

It just goes to show, if you are motivated towards achieving your fitness goals and lifestyle changes, you can!

Believe In Yourself

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

To achieve any fitness or weight loss goals you must believe in yourself, in your abilities to achieve them. Sometimes, you may not be getting the results you want, but if you work at it and persevere, you will! Let me discuss with an example of how sometimes hopeless situations end up in success.

On Monday night, I was watching the Blue Jays and Yankees game. It was the big showdown between the best pitcher in baseball right now Roy Halladay of the Blue Jays and A.J. Burnett of the Yankees. If you missed it, the Jays won 6-1 over the well-paid and perhaps over-paid Yankee team. Anyway, the high Yankee player salaries are not the point of my discussion.

What I want to discuss is the belief and confidence the Blue Jays manager, Cito Gaston, has in his players. In this game, he decides to start Scott Rolen in the game despite the fact that he was 0 for 18 in batting against A.J. Burnett. Let’s face it, the odds to perform well and the numbers were really stacked against Scott Rolen in this match-up! How did he do? Well, Scott went 3 for 4 and driving in some important runs. His poor previous batting stats did not hinder his performance on Monday. Just goes to show that if you believe in someone’s abilities and they see this, they can do well regardless of the odds and historical stats! It also instills confidence for the rest of the team to perform well.

My point is that in anything that you want to accomplish with respect to exercise or losing weight, you have to have faith in yourself and believe in yourself. You have to focus on the task at-hand and take it step-by-step. Sometimes results will not materialize immediately, but if you remain committed and believe in your abilities and yourself, they will be achieved.

Exercising Through Fatigue

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Do you occasionally go to the gym and you feel very tired? You say to yourself, “I don’t really feel like working out today!” This occasionally happens to me. I’ll go through weeks of feeling very energetic and then I’ll hit a bump in the road. I’ll feel tired for a day or two. There are even times that I really don’t want to go to the gym. This is perfectly natural. It’s difficult to workout at 100%.

The fatigue that you can be experiencing can be attributable to the weather, stress, feeling over-worked, what you ate that day or lack of sleep the night before.

This is the approach that I take to overcome fatigue. I really don’t like to waste my time at the gym. I want to get the best possible workout that I can. Feeling mentally tired won’t enable me to do this. Fatigue can be eliminated by focusing on your workout and not thinking about how tired you are. This is what I do. I begin my workout with several light sets and focus on breathing. Breathing helps to clear my mind and re-invigorates my body. The fatigue is gone and I feel a lot better. Now I can continue with my workout.

One has to remember, that you can easily give in to fatigue at the gym. A lot of it is in your mind and you must motivate yourself to eliminate it. If you are constantly tired, than you really have a problem and you must look at your current lifestyle and make some changes!
