Believe In Yourself
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009To achieve any fitness or weight loss goals you must believe in yourself, in your abilities to achieve them. Sometimes, you may not be getting the results you want, but if you work at it and persevere, you will! Let me discuss with an example of how sometimes hopeless situations end up in success.
On Monday night, I was watching the Blue Jays and Yankees game. It was the big showdown between the best pitcher in baseball right now Roy Halladay of the Blue Jays and A.J. Burnett of the Yankees. If you missed it, the Jays won 6-1 over the well-paid and perhaps over-paid Yankee team. Anyway, the high Yankee player salaries are not the point of my discussion.
What I want to discuss is the belief and confidence the Blue Jays manager, Cito Gaston, has in his players. In this game, he decides to start Scott Rolen in the game despite the fact that he was 0 for 18 in batting against A.J. Burnett. Let’s face it, the odds to perform well and the numbers were really stacked against Scott Rolen in this match-up! How did he do? Well, Scott went 3 for 4 and driving in some important runs. His poor previous batting stats did not hinder his performance on Monday. Just goes to show that if you believe in someone’s abilities and they see this, they can do well regardless of the odds and historical stats! It also instills confidence for the rest of the team to perform well.
My point is that in anything that you want to accomplish with respect to exercise or losing weight, you have to have faith in yourself and believe in yourself. You have to focus on the task at-hand and take it step-by-step. Sometimes results will not materialize immediately, but if you remain committed and believe in your abilities and yourself, they will be achieved.
